Alarming new revelations have emerged about the vote-by-mail Executive Order and USPS rulemaking as multiple legal suits move through the courts on the patently unconstitutional move.
A whistleblower dossier, went to Sen. Richard Blumenthal (CT), describes a system thrown together at the last moment in an “apparently sloppy and rushed manner” threatens “a foreseeable catastrophic disruption to our coming nationwide elections based on the reckless pursuit of readying a new, insufficiently tested, poorly planned mail-in ballot screening system.”
The revelation comes just one day after the American Postal Workers Union issued a warning that “postal workers have not yet been trained in the Postal Service’s proposed new method of handling vote-by-mail and can’t possibly be sufficiently trained in time for the mid-term elections.”
The rule also potentially puts postal workers in harm’s way if they are forced to reject otherwise legitimate ballots from customers because of the rule.
The draft order, which is currently under litigation that will likely reach the Supreme Court for a second time, would force any states or territories that wish to use the USPS for mail-in ballots to supply the Postal Service with a list of eligible voters. It also includes mandatory standards on envelope layout. Any mistakes will lead to rejection of ballots. The USPS would also share the data for “law enforcement”, raising fears that it could be used to strike off eligible voters from the mail list, as often happens in state-level voter-purges.
The whistleblower revelations paint a picture of a rushed and poorly planned attempt to implement a system that provides little benefit and huge risk to voting integrity.
The development of a portal for election officials has been a rushed process, creating many bugs. With poorly defined requirements, little time for testing and multiple points of catastrophic failure.
“…if even one bar code on one single ballot in a bulk-mailing of 10,000 ballots fails to properly scan during the verification process, the entire batch is rejected and sent back to the state – effectively stopping the ballots from being mailed to voters,” it warns.
