Rand Paul Wants To Slow Service and Make You Pay More
A hearing that was supposed to look for a bipartisan future for the Postal Service missed an important opportunity as Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee Chairman, Rand Paul, launched into an extraordinary attack on postal workers and the people who rely on its service.
Despite warnings from the Postmaster General that failure to act would result in largescale Post Office closures, the Kentucky senator called for a series of draconian attack including:
A hiring freeze, despite late delivery rife in most states thanks to understaffing
A cut down to four day delivery and charging every family $50 for more
An end to “mandates” such as the universal service requirement to serve every American household
A creeping corporate takeover of our public Post Office under the guise of “outsourcing”
A call to provide less postal service to the public “you should do less business”
